Our 2022/2023 COHORT

Abayomi develops a series of initiatives to fight domestic violence, violence generated by racism, sexism, sexual and religious orientation and sexual violence against Black women and girls, with the aim of rescuing and enhancing self-esteem.

CENARAB is organized in 18 States of the Federation, with independent and autonomous state directorates organizing Traditional Communities of African origin and proposing public policies in the various spheres of constituted public power.

Using their black feminist and abolitionist approach, Coletivo Angela Davis considers incarceration as State-sanctioned violence against racialized populations and not the solution to gender violence. In this way, they seek to understand which alternatives are articulated by the communities of Cachoeira and Santo Antônio de Jesus.

Coletiva Teia Anansi is a social organization focsused on practices and policies in favor of access to human rights, for women and adolescents, mainly Black and Afrodescendent women. The VidaAfrolatina grant will have a direct impact on strengthening the Flores no Cárcere (Flowers in Prison) Project, in which mostly Black women will have their right to menstrual dignity guaranteed within the prison system.

Rede de Mulheres Negras da Bahia is a network that contributes to the emotional development of Black women and the education and training of men on patriarchy, gender, race, masculinity and sexuality. This grant will allow Rede de Mulheres Negras da Bahia to plan and create the Working Group on Gender, Race and Masculinity which will conduct an interdisciplinary study on the racial/racialized violence against Black and Afrodescendent women during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Rede de Mulheres Negras do Rio de Janeiro formed a partnership alliance with Coletivo Rosalia Lemos to support high school students that are combating and preventing sexual violence through multiple activities, including training female student and community leaders, providing psychological support and encouraging anti-racist activism.

Revista Afirmativa provides journalistic coverage by Black women and girls, as well as all members of the LGBTQ community, on issues pertaining to social inequality with a focus on race and gender in the Northeast and Amazonian regions of Brazil. The VidaAfrolatina grant enabled Revista Afirmativa to mobilize external collaborators to develop and use audience data and metrics resulting in the creation and publication of a new editorial section dedicated to sexual violence issues.

The N’zinga collective fights against gender and ethnic-racial discrimination and oppression and seeks socio-political and economic inclusion of Afro-Brazilian women through local practices and policies. The VidaAfrolatina grant will make it possible for N’zinga to restructure the network in Minas Gerais and create the Black Women’s Articulação Mineira, thereby unifying and strengthening the political power of Black women of Minas Gerais.
